What is a task interview?

Task interviews are a common method used by companies to assess a candidate's suitability for a role. They can vary depending on the skills and/or experience the company wants to focus on. There are a number of different ways in which task interviews can be conducted, most commonly in the form of written, technical, or personality tests. 🤓

Top Tips!

→ Before completing any interview tasks, it is crucial to fully understand the role you’re applying for - and understanding the team and their area of work will give context to the exercise. Visit the organisation’s website, read the full job spec and check out their social media presence to get a feel for their employer brand. Doing research beforehand is also a great opportunity to make an informed decision on if the company is the right fit for you! 🤝

Take your time to read the task you've been given. It's really important to show employers you can follow instructions and that you've set aside time to complete this task, so don't rush straight into it. Remember, you'll be given a deadline - make the most of it! Similarly, you'll want to demonstrate to employers that you've made an effort to complete the task to a high standard, so make sure you're genuinely putting in the work to make an impact.

→ If the task involves demonstrating your written communications, it's essential that your spelling, punctuation and grammar is excellent! We can't stress enough how important it is to double, or even triple, check your task before sending it off to the employer. Similarly, make sure your work is consistent throughout; this highlights key skills, such as time management and diligence.

Ask questions! If you've been requested for an interview, but have a few burning questions before sitting down to complete it, send the employer a message or email. This will give you more confidence when completing the task, and it'll show the company you're taking the task seriously. Double win!
